Meet AmeriCorps Member: Neil Kane

Meet Neil Kane, a current Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity AmeriCorps member. We recently caught up with him to discuss his experience with our organization!

When did you first begin your AmeriCorps term?
I first began my term in April of 2025.

Why did you select IVHFH as your placement?
I wanted to learn more about building and help fight the housing shortage. Also, [Christy Shipley, IVHFH Construction Manager] is awesome.

What has been your favorite memory so far?
Christy’s one-liners. There are too many to mention.

If you could give advice to anyone who is on the fence about applying for an AmeriCorps term, what would you tell them?
If you’re passionate about the cause or just want to try something new, DO IT!

Favorite project/build you have worked on so far?
I like the current Women Build project a lot!

Is there any other information you would like people to know?
The job satisfaction with IVHFH is totally worth the modest living allowance.
