we
build

because strong homes
build strong communities
I'm excited to have something to give to my girls, something that will give them a better future. This is an opportunity for my girls to grow up in a better place."

Homeownership Program

Barriers to affordable housing prevent people from having a safe, secure place to call home.
Consequently, too many people are forced to make trade-offs that put their financial, physical, emotional and mental well-being in jeopardy.
Picture
We work to lower barriers by:
  • partnering with individuals and families in need of better housing to construct safe, decent homes.
  • connecting with local businesses and donors to secure affordable financing.
  • providing education on home maintenance, personal finance, and risk management so that future homeowners have the tools to build a strong, stable, and self-reliant future.
Picture
In turn, buying a Habitat home provides a strong foundation. It gives an opportunity to build a better life, a life in which improved living conditions lead to better health, stronger childhood development, and the financial flexibility to make forward-looking choices. A Habitat home and an affordable mortgage help homeowners save more, invest in education, and pursue opportunity.

How the Homeownership Program benefits the community

The community's tax base grows.

Homeowners pay property taxes that are used to fund schools and projects that better the entire community.
Volunteers learn valuable skills.

Volunteering on a construction site will help volunteers learn about basic home maintenance, and, with time, give them the confidence to undertake their own home improvement projects.
Homeowners stabilize neighborhoods.

Homeowners are invested in the strength and stability of their neighborhoods, so they dedicate time and energy to getting to know their neighbors and guarding the well-being of their neighborhood.
Children of homeowners perform better in school.

Because they do not suffer the detriments that accompany frequent moving, children of homeowners are more likely to obtain a secondary education.
Volunteering with Habitat helps connect people.

Because Habitat for Humanity recruits volunteers regardless of religion, nationality, sex, age, and sexual orientation, build sites become a melting pot of experiences, personalities, and expertise.
Habitat homeowners require less public assistance.

Because Habitat homeowners spend less on monthly housing costs, they utilize public assistance programs less frequently. Communities are able to dedicate these resources to other unmet needs.
